On Thursday, a 40-year-old woman banker died after slipping from a crowded train. The woman who was standing on the footboard and fell through the gap between the platform and the footboard at Borivli station.
According to Hindustan Times, the deceased was identified as Alka Pathare who is a resident of Nancy Colony in Borivli (East). The incident took place on Thursday at around 9.26 am, when Pathare was seen on the platform number 7 at Borivli station, trying to board an overcrowded train. Sanjay Patil, the senior police inspector of Borivli GRP, told the leading daily, “Pathare, who was running with the local train in an attempt to board it, had succeeded in grabbing the pole of the compartment. She, however, was dragged and slipped through the gap while attempting to get inside.”
After Pathare fell, other commuters immediately informed the GRP. The entire incident was captured on CCTV. Pathare, who worked for a nationalised bank in Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), was boarding a Virar-Churchgate fast local train on her way to work. After the accident, the GRP officials rushed her to Shatabdi Hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival. The GRP officials have registered a case of accidental death and are investigating the incident further.
