Expressing her disapproval of the proposed strike by tea unions in north Bengal, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday impressed upon the need for a permanent solution and set up an expert committee under the State’s Chief Secretary to look into the issue.
Ms. Banerjee dismissed the strike threat by the Joint Forum, an apex body of tea unions that does not include Trinamool Congress affiliates, saying strikes do not solve any problem. The Joint Forum has been demanding implementation of minimum wage in the tea gardens and had issued a call for a three-day strike from July 23 to July 25.
