Indore: The Canadian companies are keen to make heavy investments in Madhya Pradesh in sectors like manufacturing, automobile, food processing, advanced farming, water conservation and advanced furniture manufacturing. Besides, Canada wants to contribute in social sector by providing nutritive food to infants and pregnant women.
This was stated by Jordon Reeves, Consulate General of Canada in India, in an exclusive interview with Free on Thursday. “For Canada, MP is very promising state,” he remarked. Reeves along with his two colleagues, Etienne Lambert, Consul- Political-Economic and Public Affairs and Jayita Phulsunge, Public Diplomacy and Communication Officer are on a two-day visit to the state. Reeves and his team are in MP on invitation of chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
The team of Canadian diplomats met SN Mishra, principal secretary at CMO, Mohammad Suleman, principal secretary of industries department and Vivek Porwal, MD, MP Trade and Investment Felicitation Corporation in Bhopal on Wednesday. The team held discussion on areas of investment and other facilities in MP.
Talking to Free Press, Reeves said Canadian companies are globally known for their expertise in manufacturing of automobile components. Magna International Inc headquartered in Ontario is a global automobile supplier, which does not have unit in MP. “Food processing units can be set up here,” he said. Expressing concern over poor condition of farmers, Reeves said Canadian companies can provide expertise in farming sector too. He said, Canada known for production of pulses, has been exporting pulses to India for long.
He appreciated MP taking jump in position of ‘ease of doing business’. “These factors help in attracting investments and make positive impact on us also,” he said. Talking about social welfare measure, Reeves said, “We are working in Bhopal through our NGO Nutrition International for providing fortified nutritive food supplement to infants and pregnant women. We plan to extend it to other cities of MP.”
