Nagpur: The other identity of 48-year-old cloth trader and tailor Munawwar Sheikh, alias Nazim, as a
burglar often baffles
police given the property worth a few crores of rupees that he owns at Siddharth Nagar in Teka Naka. Nazim has been now arrested along with a woman for his alleged role behind burglary of around Rs 20 lakh at a private
hospital in Narendra Nagar on May 27 this year.
Apart from his property, Nazim is also known by his nickname ‘master’ for his tailoring skill. He has now set up a garment’s factory employing youngsters to run the show for him. Allegedly behind several more crimes including a bank robbery at Gondia and another in city, Nazim is a dreaded name in police department for his ability to sustain any tough interrogation for any length of time. They have been remanded in police custody up to July 17.
Even in the latest case of burglary at the residence-cum-hospital of Dr Pushpa Ambhore, police had already come to know about Nazim’s alleged involvement but they opted to take a detour for detection. The crime branch cops, knowing Nazim’s nature of not cooperating during interrogation, decided to pick up the woman aide of the master burglar. Nancy Sokhi, 21, after being rounded up by crime branch’s API Kiran Choughule’s team from her home at Rani Durgawati Chowk, confessed to her involvement along with Nazim.
Nazim and Nancy were later handed over to Ajni police who had registered the offence. Another four are yet to be nabbed. Though Nancy has narrated every detail of the burglary, police could not crack Nazim who is likely to have kept the booty. Police said Nancy had received Rs 2 lakh for her participation which she used to release a mortgage.
It is also learnt that Nancy, whose mother runs a boutique, was introduced to Nazim through their common business interest in clothes. She later joined Nazim’s plan through a common friend, also wanted in the case, for the heist as she wanted some fast cash. Nancy and Nazim had visited Dr Ambhore’s clinic on a few occasions posing as patients to observe the location and people around it.
Police said on the day of incident, Nancy had used a stolen mobile to make a call to Dr Ambhore to check her whereabouts. As Dr Ambhore claimed she would reach after an hour, Nancy alerted the accomplices to break into the house to reach the room in which the almirah having the cash was. The stolen phone led the cops to Nancy and her north Nagpur connections. The phone was stolen from Pachpaoli.
