Unknown driver booked for ramming car into cop

LUDHIANA: Division number 5 police have registered an assault case against an unknown person who injured a traffic cop with his car near Hero Bakery Chowk on Pakhowal Road on Wednesday evening.
The FIR was lodged on Thursday on the statement of injured traffic cop Surinder Singh.

On Wednesday, Surinder Singh, deployed at the chowk, waved at a luxury car to stop suspecting that a minor was driving the car. But instead of stopping, the car hit the traffic cop and dragged him on the bonnet for a few meters. The driver latter managed to escape.

The passersby rushed the cop to a nearby private hospital in Gurdev Nagar and sounded police.

Inspector Jatinder Singh, SHO, division number 5 police station, said the police have registered a case under Sections 279 (rash driving), 186 (Obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) of the IPC and Motors Vehicle Act against the unknown driver. The police have got the registration number of the car, but they have yet to identify the driver.
