Vadodara: It was a chase that seemed to be straight out of a Bollywood potboiler. Police on Friday managed to nab two bootleggers who tried to escape with hundreds of liquor bottles in a car. The duo, identified as Mahesh Mochi and Sagar Kahar, was handed over to Raopura police station for further investigation.
According to prevention of crime branch (PCB) sources, one policeman had received information that a car ferrying liquor would go from Akota to Rajmahal Road. Police watched the road near Dandia Bazaar. When they saw the car driven by the accused, the cops tried to stop it. Instead of slowing down, they sped away towards Rajmahal Road.

The cops gave chase and the accused were forced to stop at a dead end. The bootleggers tried to run away, but were nabbed. More than 700 bottles of liquor, worth Rs 67,200, were seized from the car along with a mobile phone. They told police that they had got the liquor from Hitesh, a resident of Madhya Pradesh.

Special operations group (SOG) also seized a large stock of liquor in the Gajrawadi area on Friday. They received information about liquor being ferried by a notorious bootlegger, Rajesh Thakore. When SOG men raided the spot, the accused abandoned the two autorickshaws that they were driving. Police found 501 bottles of Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) worth Rs 2 lakh. Thakore was declared wanted in this case.
