Mothers, Sisters not part of child sale racket: CBCI

The Catholic Bishops' Conference of India (CBCI) openly came in the support of Missionaries of Charity condemning the children sale case in the capital city but, at the same time, distancing the Mother Teresa Congregation from the issue calling them innocent here on Thursday.

Talking to media persons here on Thursday, Secretary General of CBCI Father Theodore Mascarenhus said that some invisible forces were targeting the mothers and sisters belonging to Mother Teresa’s congregation in Jharkhand. “We think that some forces are behind the sisters. They want to trap the Sisters. One serious case has come to light. Investigate and punish the guilty, not the Mothers and Sisters,” said Fr Theodore.

“Anima Induwar was a worker with one of the Missionaries of Charity centres. There are serious charges on her for selling children. And, we condemn such act but all allegations on the Sisters and Mothers of Mother Teresa’s Congregation is a bunch of lies. The centres have records of all the children that are there. The CWC has even checked it but what is coming out in media is absolutely fake,” he added.

Fr Theodore further said that the State and the police are behind the congregation for reasons unknown. He alleged that Sister Koshleniea, who has been arrested by the police with Anima Induwar, was forcibly made to sign on the statement by police.

“Is there any law in this State? We have not been even getting the copy of the FIR filed by police in the matter even after 7 days of the arrest of Sister Koshleniea. We got it yesterday from the court. The CWC took out the kids from Hinoo based centre forcefully despite the fact that the centre was given an admiration certificate in the month of June itself,” said Fr Theodore.

He further alleged that the CWC and Police have been targeting the centres and raiding Sisters’ houses as if they are criminals and also questioned the role of police in the Khunti gangrape case, where the head of the school was arrested for his alleged involvement.
