LUDHIANA: The green campaign launched by the Customs Commissionerate, Ludhiana, under which around 10,000 saplings are going to be planted in the areas under its jurisdiction, is running in full swing. The department’s ‘Haryali’ team comprising 25 members has planted 1,500 saplings so far in the office premises of the commissionerate, nearby villages and the Delhi highway.
Elaborating on the initiative, Ludhiana customs commissioner Arvinder Singh Ranga said, “Team Haryali was formed by our department in association with the members of the trade for planting saplings on a large scale. We had kicked-off the campaign by planting a ‘GST Tree’ on July 1 to mark one year of GST regime. The same day we pledged to plant 10,000 saplings to make our surroundings greener.”

Ranga added, “Our team is doing well and has planted 1,500 saplings so far. With the help of the I-Hariyali app of the state forest department, some free plants were arranged. The team is planting mango, jamun, sukhchain, neem saplings, while more varieties are being considered for plantation. The custodians of different ports, members of customs brokers’ association and trade have also been motivated to plant saplings in and around the premises of their ports and houses to achieve the target.”
