B.N. Chandrappa, MP, has instructed officers concerned to invite a tender for purchase of eight tankers for supplying drinking water to affected areas during emergencies in rural areas of the district.
Speaking at a meeting of district-level officers here on Wednesday to discuss the utilisation of MP Local Area Development Funds, he said ₹70 lakh has already been released to the zilla panchayat for purchase of tankers. Immediate steps should be taken to invite tenders, he said. “Every year, the Union government releases ₹5 crore for taking up development works in the constituency. Since Chitradurga constituency comprises 8 taluks, it would be difficult to allot funds for all development works. So, officers concerned should make systematic use of funds allocated to works and maintain the quality of the works,” he said.
So far, 280 works have been given administrative approval under the MP funds, in which 147 works have been completed and remaining are in different stages. The funds have been allotted to panchayat raj engineering division, Nirmiti Kendra and other agencies for systematic implementation of works.
“District-level officers should supervise the works and ensure that they are completed at the earliest,” he said.
Deputy Commissioner V.V. Jyothsna instructed the officers to give detailed information on pending or delayed works owing to model code of conduct in the district and get them approved at the earliest.
