Coimbatore: The city’s first Wi-Fi enabled public toilet is getting ready for inauguration near the Government Women’s Polytechnic College on Balasundaram Road on Sunday.
City corporation commissioner K Vijayakarthikeyan inspected the building on Friday and directed the officials to set up Wi-Fi facility there. “But the Wi-Fi can be used only for accessing mail, flight and train schedule. People will be barred from downloading files and using video streaming applications,” a senior corporation official told TOI.

The civic body had constructed the Rs 98 lakh facility after demolishing an old dilapidated toilet at the place. “The 4,200sqft free-to-use facility has five toilets and three bathrooms each for men and women. We have also set up a garden in front of the toilet,” the official said.

Maintenance of both the toilet and the garden has been handed over to a private firm. The firm has been allowed to display advertisements at the facility to earn revenue.
