Residents allege effluent leak into Nallaru river

Tirupur: Residents have alleged that the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board did not take proper action to stop leakage of industrial effluents near Nallaru river in Angeripalayam in the city.
More than 50 textile dyeing units are functioning at Angeripalayam. The units have installed pipelines to carry industrial effluents to a common effluent treatment plant (CETP) along Nallaru river, a tributary of Noyyal river. The pipelines would often leak.

“We have noticed seepage of industrial effluents on Angeripalayam road near VK Government Higher Secondary School, and when we dig the ground, we found that one of the pipes which carry the effluents was leaking at two places,” said Palanikumar of Angeripalayam.

Despite complaining on Thursday, Tnpcb officials have not taken steps to stop the leakage, he added.

When contacted, a senior Tnpcb official said, “We have not received the complaint so far, we will look into the issue.”
