If the Prime Minister really wants improvement of agriculture sector, he must form an Indian Agriculture Service or a Central Agriculture Service immediately, the All India Agricultural Students’ Association has demanded.

Association Odisha State president Anil Kumar Mishra said agricultural scientist and teachers are working under autonomous body; they have no recognition like Government officers working in different all India services.

Due to lack of better opportunity, best agricultural students are going in other organised services. Officers working in Central Agriculture Department have been kept in unorganised form and at a very low profile. Though they are selected by the UPSC, but they are only working like supporting hand; their contributions in policy making are nil. They cannot become Joint Secretary due to their low pay scale.

Agriculture scientists and teachers are confined to research and teaching. They are also not engaged in agricultural policy formation. Rather civil servants like IAS, IFS are the policy makers, it lamented.
