TIRUPUR: After a fight with her husband, a 35-year-old
woman murdered her two children and attempted to commit suicide at Mangalam in
Tirupur district of
Tamil Nadu on Friday.
Police said S Sivaranjani of Poomalur was married to Senthil alias Thiayagarajan and they had two children, Sri Harshanth, 7 and eight-month-old Sri Harshita. Senthil, a DMK functionary, was the former president of Poomalur panchayat, police said.
Sivaranjani murdered her children by throwing them into a water-filled sump and herself on fire. Later, she jumped into the sump.
Hearing Sivaranjani’s cries, neighbours reached there and rescued her and her children.
They were rushed to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital where doctors declared that the children were brought dead. The woman, who suffered 90% burn injuries, was undergoing treatment.
The Mangalam police registered a case.
