HYDERABAD: Overnight rainfall of up to 4cm in few areas of the city brought the mercury down to 21.3 degree Celsius, just a notch above the lowest minimum temperature recorded during last monsoon of 21.2 degree celsius.
Within a week, the maximum temperature in the city dropped from 33.8 degree Celsius on July 5 to 26.9 degree Celsius on Thursday. According to the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS), Balanagar received highest rainfall of 45.5mm during the last 24 hours followed by Pashamylaram at 31.5mm, Bollarum at 27.5mm, Malkajgiri at 27.3mm, Madhapur at 26.0mm, Moulali at 23.5mm, Begumpet at 23.5mm, West Maredpally at 22.5mm BHEL Factory at 21.8mm and Srinagar Colony at 21.0mm respectively.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad forecasts that the rainfall will continue for the next few days due to a low pressure area which is very likely to form over north Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood during the next 24 hours. “Apart from this, another low pressure area is likely to form over north Bay of Bengal & neighborhood around July 16,” read the weather report released by the IMD, Hyderabad on Thursday.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall warning in isolated in all districts was also issued by IMD, Hyderabad for the next two days.
The widespread rainfall led to water stagnation at various areas such as Mehdipatnam bus stand, Kanaka Durga temple road, SBI Colony, Gudimalkapur, Mallepally, Asif Nagar, Indira Nagar to name a few. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation pressed monsoon emergency team in action to clear the stagnation points in various areas.
Meanwhile, weather conditions in districts was much worse with many areas in Adilabad, Nalgonda and Suryapet witnessing rainfall from 60 to 79cm. According to TSDPS, highest rainfall of 85.8mm was recorded at Narnoor in Adilabad. While the highest seasonal rainfall of 544.6mm is recorded in Adilabad, lowest seasonal rainfall of 121.6mm is recorded in Jogulamba-Gadwal.
