In a good piece of news for those interested in sports, construction work of the multi-purpose sports complex in Parade Ground is now going on in full swing. The foundation stone of the complex was laid in October 2016. The project cost has been pegged at Rs  14. 39 crore and Rs 8 crore has already been spent. And it would be completed by the end of this year.

Informing, an officer of  Uttarakhand Peyjal Sansadhan Vikas and Nirmaan Nigam (UPSVNN) which has been tasked to build the complex by the State Government and the Sports Authority of India (SAI), said that there would be six badminton courts, two boxing rings, a basket ball court and volleyball court along with some indoor games. Besides, there would be adequate water facility as it would have a big underground water tank.

The floor of the complex would be wooden. The design of the complex has been drawn  by the engineers of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee. The complex would have adequate arrangement of flood lights to ensure that the games are played in the night too.

“After it is completed the players would practise without facing any problem from the quirky climate.

They face now difficulty when it rains. Once the complex comes up rain would not disrupt games. The same is true of the scorching sun during the summer and the cold during the winter.

It has seating capacity of 450 people,” said the UPSVNN officer while talking with The Pioneer on Thursday.

The district sports officer (DSO) Dehradun Rajesh Mamgain said that the complex would present  a golden opportunity for the youth of  Dehradun and Uttarakhand. “The players can practise undisturbed by the quirky climate with all facilities being provided to them. We will recruit permanent coaches for every game. Besides, various camps will be hosted  inside the complex for the players,” he added.
