Battle of yatras between BJP and Congress awaits poll-bound Madhya Pradesh

BHOPAL: A battle of yatras (political treks) between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress is on the cards in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will embark on the Jan Ashirwad Yatra to connect with voters in all 230 assembly segments of the state. The yatra will be flagged off by BJP chief Amit Shah after offering prayers at the Makahaleshwar Temple in Ujjain on Saturday.
Chouhan will address as many as 700 public rallies highlighting the achievements of his government. In the first phase starting from Ujjain, the yatra will travel through 11 Assembly constituencies in Ujjain and adjoining districts such as Ratlam.
Responding to Chouhan's Jan Ashirwad Yatra plan, MP Congress Committee president Kamal Nath sent a letter to the Mahakaleshwar Temple, mentioning that just like the 2013 yatra, Chouhan was again embarking on a trek to befool people of the state with his hollow announcements.
The Opposition party also announced a Jan Jagaran Abhiyan yatra to expose the series of failures of the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government. The Abhiyan will be flagged off by Kamal Nath on July 18 from Tarana town in Ujjain district.
"Our Abhiyan will follow the CM's yatra in every assembly segment and expose the lies spread by him. We'll expose the BJP government's failures on all fronts, including farmers' distress and suicides, soaring crime against women and girls as well as the series of corruption in the government," said Congress spokesperson NS Saluja.
