KOCHI: A Lot of startups are coming up in the state. However, the one thing all these startup founders lack is fund. Right from office furniture to computers and laptops, everything needs a lot of capital. But these startups can save a lot of capital by renting necessary equipment. “This is where we come in,” said Harsh Chand, CEO of Rent- Sher. “We have a presence in all the metro cities in the country. However, we came to know the market potential of the tier-II cities after getting enquiries from people based there. So we decided to begin our operations in Kochi along with Chennai and Pune,” he said.

Kerala, especially Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram, with their startup well-established ecosystems show huge potential. “Besides startups, destination weddings are becoming a rage in Kerala. Also, with an increase in per capita income, birthdays and anniversaries are being celebrated by more and more people in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram. All these functions need furniture and other things,” he said. Kerala is also known for tourism, both medical and leisure.

“In the case of medical tourism, we provide wheelchairs, medical beds and other equipment for rent. Patients needn’t worry about checking into a hospital. They can take a room in a luxury hotel and rent the equipment needed using our app,” said Harsh. According to Harsh, who comes to Kerala frequently, the non-availability of items like cameras proved to be a hassle while visiting various locales. “I wanted to rent a camera but couldn’t find a single place doing that. So, we decided to start renting out equipment needed by a tourist too.

All these aspects will be covered in Kerala market,” he said. Commenting on the expansion, Harsh said, “RentSher has a simple mission — to provide a winwin situation for customers and suppliers across the globe as the sharing economy takes hold. I am certain that there are several thousand people in these new cities that we are entering into — from people looking to rent party decorations or companies looking to provide equipment to employees — will find our end-to-end streamlined services of use.

Our plan for 2018 is to spread RentSher across India, the countries in the Gulf, and the Middle East in general.” RentSher provides IT equipment to 100 startups and SMEs in the market and plans to scale up to bring these services to corporates and large business houses in existing and upcoming markets.
