In yet another incident of a driver of a private cab aggregator company misbehaving with a woman passenger, an Ola driver has been arrested for attempting to hurl his footwear at a passenger.
The incident took place on July 10 near SBM Circle on KG Road in the city.
The victim, a college student, and her mother had booked the cab to travel to Malleswaram around 4 pm. However, even before the cab could arrive to pick them up, the accused driver Mahadeva, had already switched on the meter. The victim got a message on her phone about the waiting charges applicable and was perplexed as the cab was not yet at the location. When she confronted the driver about this, he not only abused her but also tried to hurl his slipper at her, police officials said.
The victim later filed a complaint with Upparpet police, who have arrested the driver.
Police issues notice to Ola
On verifying the details, police also found out that the vehicle did not belong to Mahadeva and was registered in the name of one, Vishal Parekh.
“When we questioned Mahadeva, we found that the owner of the car had appointed him as the driver. Hence there was a disparity in the name registered with the company and the person driving. We have issued a notice to Ola on the same,” a police official said.
Meanwhile, Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi took to Twitter to express her anguish at the frequency of such incidents. “I am worried about how Karnataka government is totally ignoring women safety in the city...” Ms Gandhi tweeted.
