LUDHIANA: The sky turned overcast and it drizzled in some areas of the city, bringing the much-needed respite to city residents from the hot and sultry conditions. The good news for residents is that the Met department predicts rain in the next few days, which is likely to bring down temperatures.
Even as it was hot and humid in the city until the afternoon, suddenly thick clouds appeared in the sky by evening. It also drizzled in many areas of the city, even as it lasted for just about half an hour or so after 4.10pm. As per the Met department, maximum temperature in the city on Thursday stood at 35.4C, (a degree above normal), and the minimum was recorded at 28.1C (three degrees above normal). Relative humidity was normal at 80%, and rainfall in the city from 8.30am to 5.30pm was 5mm.

As residents were happy to get some relief from the hot and humid conditions, the Met department prediction can bring more smiles on their faces. A Met department official at Chandigarh said there were chances of thunderstorm with rain in the next four days, after which either rain or thundershowers might lash the city. He added that during this time, both day and night temperatures are expected to witness a fall. As per the Met department website, the day temperature is expected to fall to 30 degrees until July 16, whereas night temperature is likely to fall to 24 degrees until July 17.

Meanwhile, residents are happy with the sudden change in weather. “For the past several days, hot and sultry weather had made our lives difficult, but I am happy that it drizzled for a while on Wednesday evening. I hope and pray that it rains heavily in the next few days, so that cool weather arrives in the city,” said Hardeep Singh, a trader from BRS Nagar.
