NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday disposed of BJP leader Subramanian Swamy’s plea seeking
SIT probe into the mysterious death of
Sunanda Pushkar as the chargesheet in the case had been filed by the Delhi Police and Congress leader
Shashi Tharoor named as an accused.
A bench, headed by Justice Arun Mishra, said there was nothing left for the court at this stage to adjudicate and rapped up its proceedings in the case. Swamy, however, told the court that he might approach the court again at a later stage.
After being snubbed by the
Delhi High Court which had in October dismissed his PIL calling it a “textbook example of a political interest litigation”, Swamy had approached the Supreme Court challenging the HC order.
The trial court had on July 7 granted regular bail to Tharoor in connection with the case.
On June 5, a Delhi court had ordered Tharoor to appear on July 7, after taking cognisance of the chargseheet filed in the case.
The court took cognisance of Tharoor's alleged offences of abetment of suicide and committing cruelty towards his wife.
On May 14, the Delhi Police had filed a chargesheet in the court, in which it named Tharoor as an accused under Sections 306 (abetment of suicide) and 498A (cruelty to wife) of the
Indian Penal Code (IPC).
