DHENKANAL:  The proposed Birasal airstrip in tribal-dominated Kankadahada block in the district has been granted ‘No Objection Certificate’ (NOC) by the General Administration department of the State Government.The NOC has revived hopes of residents of Dhenkanal and Angul districts as work on the airstrip has been pending since 2013. PWD sources said the airstrip is spread over 56 acres of land. 

Earlier, PWD had spent `1.10 crore for construction of boundary walls. In 2016-17, the Government spent `6. 61 crore on  the runway and drainage works.  WD Executive Engineer Manoranjan Biswal said runway work has already been completed.Tender will soon be floated for apron work at the airstrip at a cost of `1.21 crore, he added.
