The Lexus RC-F Should Never Be Seen As A BMW M4 Rival

When Lexus first revealed the RC-F, the world expected the Japanese car maker to give the BMW M4 a proper run for its money.

Especially since its predecessor, the IS-F, proved to be one of the most surprising performance sedans, offering an engaging driving experience that was accompanied by a throaty naturally aspirated V8.

The Lexus RC-F arrived at a time when everyone was downsizing their engines and adding turbos to them. With the BMW M4 turning to a twin turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine that offered all of its torque below 2,000 rpm, the high-revving engine in the much heavier RC-F seemed like it never even had a chance.

How much heavier? Well, 661 lbs (300 kg) heavier than the BMW M4, with the RC-F’s weight figure sitting at a rather bulky 4,056lbs (1,840kg).

Still though, the 5.0-liter V8 produces 477hp and a wonderful induction noise that makes the driver want to keep the engine at boil, just to keep listening to it.

Then of course is the styling; bearing in mind that this is a purely subjective matter, the RC-F’s busy shape didn’t make many friends but at least it looks unique and with its own distinct identity.
