Consumer forum directs it to provide garbage bins in government colony

A district consumer disputes redressal commission in Delhi held the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) guilty of “deficiency in services” after the complainant alleged that garbage bins were not provided despite complaints.

To pay compensation

Directing the CPWD to provide three garbage bins in the government residential colony, the district consumer forum said, “Not providing of the garbage bin by the opposite party [CPWD] amounts to deficiency in service, we therefore, hold [CPWD] guilty of deficiency in service.”

The consumer forum further, directed the CPWD to pay the complainant a compensation of ₹5,000 for the “pain and mental agony suffered by him”.

Complainant Arjun Singh, a resident of Nehru Nagar, had alleged that no garbage bins were provided in the colony since possession of the houses in 2013.

Further, it was alleged that the residents of the colony were forced to pay ₹300 per month for the disposal of the garbage, even though it was the CPWD’s responsibility.

Further, the consumer forum noted, “From the unrebutted testimony of the complainant and the document placed on record, we are convinced with the case put forth by the complainant.”
