TRICHY: Customs officials at
Trichy International Airport busted the latest modus operandi of
gold smugglers and recovered 1.84kg of yellow metal in various forms, including gold powder mixed with a kind of paste.
On suspicion, the officials checked four
passengers who arrived from Dubai in an Air India Express flight in the early hours of Thursday. The passengers have been identified as Nizam Mohidin, Abdul Harris, Mohammed Ashque and Mazhar Hussain. All of them are natives of Chennai.
The officials found gold bars and gold powder in the baggage of the passengers. Officials said the value of the smuggled gold was Rs 55.75 lakh. The passengers were arrested.
Foreign currencies seized
The customs officials at
Trichy airport seized foreign currencies to the tune of Rs 8.31 lakh from a passenger, identified as Sahul Hameed , who was about to board a Sri Lankan Airlines flight to Colombo on Friday.
