Vadodara: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) is still struggling to find the faults in the water supply network in Navapura area of the city. The area is still being supplied water by tankers and there is no clarity as to when piped water supply will resume.
VMC was forced to severe water connections there in wake of the gastroenteritis outbreak in the area. With three more cases being reported on Friday, the total number of gastroenteritis cases from the area went up to 103. So far, the outbreak has claimed one life in the area even as 10 remain hospitalised.
On Friday, three samples of water from the area were checked by the VMC officials and it came to light that all three of them were not fit for drinking. Officials said that till the tests ruled out bacterial and faecal contamination, drinking water could lead to gastroenteritis cases.
While the number of cases being reported from the area has gone down significantly, sources said that this was only because of the fact that water was being supplied to the area using tankers. “The real situation will be known only after water supply through pipelines resumes,” said an official. Sources added that the water supply network in the area was old and would have to be replaced for a long-term solution.
