LUDHIANA: In a development which could possibly end five-year-old war over the control of
Knitwear Club, one of the warring factions, led by president Darshan Dawar, has said they are ready to strike a compromise with the other group, led by chairman Vinod Thapar.
The offer comes after a recent flare up between the groups at a press briefing held by state government at a hotel for the upcoming textile conclave. At the event, Dawar group had hit a controversy by openly announcing that their group and related associations will boycott the conclave to be held on July 13, if
Thapar group too is invited for the programme.
Speaking to TOI, Dawar said, “I do not have any kind of personal enmity against Thapar or anyone else belonging to his group. During the briefing on textile conclave, members of his group instigated us and entered into an altercation with us without any reason.”
“However, we are ready to end this dispute which has been going on for years now and due to which 1,300 members of the association are suffering. We are ready to open the locks of the association office, provided that the other group does the same too. But immediately afterwards, fresh elections of the Knitwear Club should be held. This is our main condition for compromise and in case they do not agree for elections, then it’s all over,” he added.
Dawar said, “We are ready to nominate a five-member committee from our side who will oversee the entire process and if they are ready, they should too nominate a five-member panel from their side after which talks can be held to discuss the entire process of unlocking the office, deciding the date of elections and choosing an election committee as well. In addition to this, every decision taken by the joint committee should be noted down.”
