LUDHIANA: Taking note of the problems of commuters due to the ongoing elevated road project on the Ferozepur Road, mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu has asked the contractor to prepare a plan to make the slip road functional to pave the way for smooth traffic movement.
During his visit to the construction site, Sandhu also conducted a meeting with the officials concerned on Thursday.

The mayor directed the contractor to clear the bushes on some areas along the Ferozepur Road where the slip road is yet to be constructed.

During the meeting held near Nanaksar Gurdwara, Congress councillor Mamta Ashu said due to the ongoing construction of elevated road, the commuters are facing problems as the width of the Ferozepur Road has narrowed at some places.

She directed the contractor to submit a detailed plan clearly mentioning the measures to be taken for smooth flow of traffic on portions where the construction activity is to take place.

She warned the contractor that they would not allow them to start construction activity on any place until they submit an alternate traffic plan. The traffic police have been told to ensure that there is no encroachment on the Ferozepur Road as well as on the slip road.

Already traffic congestion on the road has put the residents in great trouble. Due to ongoing work, the width of main road has almost reduced to half and queues of vehicles can be seen on both sides of the road during peak hours.

The mayor has asked the contractor to make a plan for the slip road starting from Nanaksar Gurdwara till Bharat Nagar Chowk.

Earlier in a meeting with deputy commissioner Pardeep Agrawal, it was decided that first the slip road will be made functional and then construction will begin, but the contractors did not pay heed towards the same.

Ajit Singh, a resident of Rajguru Nagar, said it takes almost an hour to cross this stretch on the Ferozepur Road if one has to reach the Clock Tower. Earlier it took less than half-an-hour, he said ruing that the company has not adopted any no system before starting the construction work.
