Country’s first greenfield skill institute at Barang

BHUBANESWAR: Odisha is set to have the country’s first greenfield skill training institute at Barang. The National Skill Training Institute (NSTI) would provide a variety of hybrid skill training programmes, both long and short term, along with advanced diploma programme.The institute would impart training in Systems Applications Products (SAP), Internet of Things (IoT), healthcare and agriculture, mobile repairing, solar technician and technician mechatronics, advanced Diploma in IT Networking and Cloud Computing, Training of Trainers (ToT) in Pedagogy for Sector Skill Councils, ToT for conventional courses including fitter, electrician, plumbing and welding.

While the State Government has provided five acres of land free of cost for the purpose, the entire expenditure on account of campus construction, labs, classrooms, hostel and equipment would be incurred by Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE). Union Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan will lay the foundation stone for NSTI-Bhubaneswar on July 16.

IndiaSkills Regional Competitions 
The City will host IndiaSkills Regional Competitions (East) 2018 from July 15 to 17. The three-day event is being jointly organised by MSDE and National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) at SOA University. To be inaugurated by Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on July 15, this is the last of the four such regional competitions organised across the country this year.Around 250 competitors from 23 States will compete across 27 skills and trades. Majority of the competitors will be from Odisha, Bihar, Assam, Nagaland, Tripura, Jharkhand and Meghalaya.

Mega counselling camp, exhibitions by sector skill councils along with conference and seminars with different stakeholders of the skill ecosystem will be organised on the occasion.Senior Head (State Engagement) of Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) - STT Jaikant Singh said the winners from all the four regional competitions will compete in a national competition at New Delhi, scheduled to be held from October 2 to 5.  The winners will undergo intensive industry training and get a chance to represent India at WorldSkills International Competition at Kazan in Russia in August 2019, he added.Among others, Senior Head (Industry Partnership) of Sankalp and Communication, NSDC Gaurav Kapoor and Head of WorldSkills India Ranjan Choudhury were present.
