Ghaziabad: A contractual employee of the electricity department who had not received salary for the past four months allegedly lodged a false police complaint that Rs 3.5 lakh he had collected for his office had been robbed and kept the money to himself.
Amit Chaudhary, a resident of Modinagar, was arrested on Thursday. He alleged that two bike-borne men had robbed the money in Sihani Gate while he was on his way to office on Monday. He claimed the assailants also snatched his motorcycle, laptop and a gold chain.

Investigation revealed Chaudhary had hidden the money in his house and parked the bike at a friend’s place. He has been booked under IPC Section 182. Chaudhary, a contractual staff of the electricity department, said as soon as he reached Ator Nagla village, the assailants blocked his path at gunpoint and snatched the cash he was carrying in a bag. The apparent robbery occurred at 9.45am, but Chaudhary had informed police over an hour later. Two unidentified persons had been booked for the theft.

“He told us the money belonged to the electricity department and he had not deposited it on July 6 as he had spent some of it. He claimed he was going to deposit the money with the bank on Monday when he was robbed,” SHO (Sihani Gate) Sanjay Kumar Pandey said.
