Nagpur: A 17-year-old youth, who had staged his own kidnapping story, is being brought back to the city from Mumbai by Ganeshpeth police.
Police said the youth had sent a message from his cellphone to his maternal uncle’s number mentioning that he has been kidnapped and will be killed by some rivals over old enmity. He was supposed to reach Rewa in Madhya Pradesh by bus on July 6.

His family started growing anxious as he did not reach home and his cellphone too was switched off. Police said he scripted his kidnapping plan as he wanted to shift to Mumbai for work.

The anxious family sought help of Ganeshpeth police through Ravnish Pandey alias Chintu Maharaj, Shiv Sena’s east Nagpur leader. The cops swung into action and started tracing the youth’s mobile phone location. The mobile phone was traced in Mumbai.

A police team under senior PI Sunil Gangurde and PI Vinod Choudhari then left for Mumbai. The team under PSI Atram compromising constables Anand Wankhede and others tracked Vimal in Mumbai and reunited him with his family.

About five days ago, a 13-year-old had also scripted his own kidnapping saga, sending city police in a tizzy.
