HYDERABAD: The body of 25-year-old Sharath Koppu, who was shot dead four days ago at Kansas City in Missouri, arrived in the city around 11:30 pm on Wednesday. Sharath, who is a native of Warangal, died after an unidentified man shot him at the restaurant he was working in. BJP MP Bandaru Dattatreya was present at the airport along with the family members to receive the body. The minister offered flowers and said his prayers, along with a few other local MLAs.
The body was then taken to Warangal, though he had been living at Ameerpet in the city for many years along with his family. Sharath’s funeral will be held on Friday morning at his Warangal home. Earlier, the General Administration (NRI) Department had informed that Sharath’s father, K Ram Mohan, and his uncles would receive the body at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.
Speaking to the media, Dattatreya said that the unfortunate incident had left students in the United States and families here perturbed. “I have made my efforts and requested Sushma Swaraj to take up some safety and security measures so that they feel safe,” he said.
Sharath’s killing comes only a year after the shooting of another city-based techie Srinivas Kuchibhotla in February 2017.
