Uttar Pradesh prisons seeks permission to shift Munna Bajrangi's killer Sunil Rathi from Baghpat jail

LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh prisons administration department has sought permission from the government to shift gangster Munna Bajrangi's killer Sunil Rathi from the Baghpat prison to a jail compound equipped with CCTV cameras and high-security cells

Investigation and interrogation of Baghpat jail inmates revealed gangster Vicky Suhaida extended a warm welcome to the eastern UP don when he landed from Jhansi to Baghpat on late Sunday night. Sunil Rathi also joined the don and Suhaida. The trio came out of the cell around 1 am and had booze till 2:30 am, according to sources.

The eyewitness disclosed that on early Monday morning, Bajrangi decided to take shower. As he stood up to move, Rathi had an altercation with him. Suhaida intervened to cool things down. But, Rathi soon sprayed bullets on Bajrangi with a pistol. He emptied one magazine, loaded another and pumped all the bullets into Bajrangi's body from point blank range, they said.

As per the eyewitnesses' account, after the incident, Rathi claimed Bajrangi had come to kill him so he eliminated the gangster. The eyewitness said Rathi killed Bajrangi with his own pistol. At the time of killing, Rathi was accompanied by his three cohorts.

As per the sources, the pistol was ferried to Rathi by keeping it in a tiffin box as he used to get special home cooked food at jail. It is suspected that Rathi had arranged the arms and ammunition two-three days prior to Bajrangi's arrival at the Baghpat jail.

Sub-inspector Sanjeev Kumar, investigating officer in the case, refused to comment on how the pistol was sneaked into the jail.

Other inmates said Rathi used to enjoy certain privileges inside the Baghpat jail. His special visitors never registered their entry on the log book. In fact, the mobile phone used to click Bajrangi after his murder remains untraceable till date.

An FIR mentions Rathi used a semi-automatic pistol to murder Bajrangi. The FIR was registered after the weapon was recovered from a drain inside the Baghpat jail.

The postmortem report of Munna Bajrangi confirmed 13 bullet wounds - seven entry and six exit wounds - on his body as compared to nine claimed by the police initially. According to the report, Bajrangi had as many as six wounds in his skull, including three at the back. The report did not mention recovery of any bullet from Bajrangi's body. The report also indicated four gunshot wounds on his chest.
