In a tweet, the Trinamool Congress chairperson accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of targeting sisters of Missionaries of Charity.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday alleged that malicious attempts are being made to malign the name of Missionaries of Charity.

In a tweet, the Trinamool Congress chairperson accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of targeting sisters of Missionaries of Charity.

“Mother Teresa herself set up Missionaries of Charity. And now they are also not being spared. Malicious attempts to malign their name. The Sisters are being targeted. #BJP want to spare no one. Highly condemnable. Let MOC continue to do their work for the poorest of the poor,” she tweeted.

Ms. Banerjee remark comes in the wake of the arrest of two employees, including a nun of Missionaries of Charity, at a shelter home in Ranchi on allegations of selling a baby to a childless couple from Uttar Pradesh.

The headquarters of Missionaries of Charity set up by Mother Teresa is located in Kolkata. The Chief Minister was also present at the Vatican during the canonisation of Mother Teresa in September 2016.
