Now along with the maintenance of the 2,600 standard buses, the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) will also provide maintenance and servicing for the low floor buses. Delhi Transport Minister, Kailash Gahlot on Wednesday assigned the maintenance work of low-floor buses to the DTC.

Further in order to succeed the new innings, the Minister has inaugurated a skill developing training programme and workshop in mechanics and maintenance for DTC employees in batches.

Till now the DTC mechanics were only working on the standard buses and the manufacturers were used to maintain (servicing and maintenance) the low floor buses. But, in a recently held meeting the Gahlot has assigned the work to DTC by saying the corporation should maintain their buses on their own without relying on others.

"These days the Low-Floor Buses of the Corporation are being maintained by the manufacturers and therefore, the purpose of this training is to make the Corporation self-reliance to maintain their Buses without the help of manufacturer," said Gahlot.

Around 40 employees have been selected from the department who will be participating in the first batch. The skill developing training will be provided in the Workshops of Bus Manufacturers Ashok Leyland, TATA and JBM at Lucknow, Alwar and Kosi

"The future the maintenance of Low Floor Buses may be carried out by the DTC itself for which the employees will be given proper training by the bus manufactures. And if found necessary, Training will be imparted in different parts of the country and abroad to upgrade the skill of DTC Workshop employees," Gahlot further added.

"Earlier, the low floor buses were maintained by the manufacturers of the bus but now they refused to provide maintenance by saying their work is only manufacturing buses. After that, tender was also floated for providing due maintenance to the vehicles but the bidders did not show much interest and the bids got failed. We are happy as it is assigned to us with special training ," said a DTC official.
