PMC to allocate funds for road construction in merged villages

PUNE: Funds will be allocated village-wise for construction of new roads in the merged villages. Nearly Rs one crore will be given to each village for building thoroughfares in the first phase.
“The work orders will be issued in the days to come. The civic body has made provision for the same. The constructions will start in around a fortnight’s time,” said a senior official of Pune Municipal Corporation.

The officials added that citizens had demanded construction of roads in the villages. The elected members from these areas had also pressed for better infrastructure. Funds have been reserved in the municipal budget for current fiscal (year 2018-19). Over Rs 110 crore have been kept aside of the civic works in this financial year.

As many as 11 villages have been merged in the PMC limits in 2017. Out of total 11 two villages totally added in the PMC limits. The state government has plans to add 34 villages in the PMC limits. A notification was issued in 2017 to merge 11 villages in first phase. The remaining 23 will be added in upcoming phases.

As per PMC’s estimate around Rs 2229 crore will be needed for developing infrastructure. The funds are to be raised from various sources including state and union government funding.
