Skill Day to be held in city on July 15

For the first time, the World Youth Skill Day on July 15 mandated by the UN would be celebrated in Bhubaneswar other than in New Delhi.

To coincide the day, the 3rd anniversary of Skill India and mega launch of India Skills Regional Competition (East) with the participation of 250 candidates from seven States who would compete in 27 events to be held at the SOA University here.

The participants were selected at State level competitions which were conducted by the respective State Governments. Of them 54 are from Odiaha selected in a competition held in Bhubaneswar on May 27, 28 and 29. The States who are participating are Odiaha, West Bengal, Assam, Jharkhand, Tripura, Nagaland and Meghalaya.

A jury consisting of industry and academic representatives will judge the skill of participating youths and select talented youths who will participate in national competition in Delhi to be held from October 2-5 and the nationally selected talents would join in international competition scheduled in 2019 at Kajan in Russia.

Before the Eastern regional competitions, North, South and Western competitions have already been completed.

During the three-day event, a mega career counselling programming has already been designed targeted to reach to at least 10-12,000 youths with their parents and guardians basically to teach them on scope and opportunities in Skill India programme, MUDRA scheme, banking support, entrepreneurship development, etc.

A Training of Trainers is being organised during the event to educate the trainers and to have networking among themselves.

An exhibition to showcase institutions and skills, besides opportunities available, is another attraction of the programme.

Union Minister of Petroleum, Natural Gas, Skill Development Dharmendra Pradhan would inaugurate the event in presence of the NITI Aayog Vice-Chairman, State Planning and Convergence Minister Usha Devi and local MP and MLAs. Besides, the Skill Development Ministers of seven participating States have also been invited.
