Man held for killing baby daughter

Police on Wednesday arrested a man for allegedly killing his 13-day-old daughter by throwing her into a well in Angul district.

The baby girl of Dushasan Sahu had gone missing on July 6, following which it was suspected that the infant was dragged and mauled by a stray dog.

A day after, the baby’s body was recovered from a well near the house. While probing into the incident, police interrogated Sahu, during which he confessed that he threw the infant into the well leading to her death.

Sahu’s wife had previously given birth to their first daughter. After the birth of another girl, Sahu took the extreme step of eliminating her, police said.
