CHANDIGARH: Advanced navigation aide category-III (
CAT-III) instrument has been finalised for installation at the
Chandigarh airport, implying that air passengers of the Tricity and the region would no more face flight cancellations during winter owing to fog or poor visibility.
The decision to install ILS (CAT-III) was taken in a meeting of all the stakeholders, including Indian Air Force (IAF), Airports Authority of India (AAI), Chandigarh International Airport Limited (CHIAL) and others. The meeting was held on June 25 at the IAF headquarters in Delhi in which all the parties agreed to work for implementation of installing ILS (CAT-III) at the Chandigarh airport.
Assistant solicitor general of India Chetan Mittal said two major obstacle regarding installation of CATIII were shifting of a wall and the cost involved in it. “Both have been resolved, as the Punjab government has agreed to provide requisite .6-acre land and the AAI has agreed to bear the cost of shifting and reconstruction of the wall. As everything is now final, the allotment of tender work for the installation of advanced navigation system at the Chandigarh airport would soon start,” Mittal said.
A copy of the minutes of the meeting was also provided on Wednesday by the assistant solicitor general to senior advocate M L Sarin who is assisting the Punjab and Haryana high court as Amicus Curie in the case.
Meanwhile, Chief Justice Krishna Murari on Wednesday observed that first of all he needs to understand the entire issue. Chetan Mittal assured the Chief Justice, who has recently resumed the charge, to provide him the complete background of the case within a week.
