THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought a report from chief secretary after a rights activist filed a petition alleging violation of human rights of former DGP TP Senkumar by the state, in collusion with a few bureaucrats.

In the letter issued on June 11, the NHRC has directed the chief secretary to take appropriate action based on thecomplaint. It has requested that an action taken report be sent to the commission within the four weeks from the date of receipt of the letter.

The petitioner, a rights activist, had indicated that the state indulged in vendetta politics by lodging a fake case against the former DGP. He pointed out that the government, led by Pinarayi Vijayan, has been misusing the government mechanism, especially the police force for its narrow gains.

It became clear that ministers and top-level bureaucrats were involved in vendetta politics after the high court quashed a case registered against Senkumar over presenting fake medical certificates for availing leave.
