BSF officer, two others arrested for PSO’s rifle theft in Kashmir

SRINAGAR: Three people including two BSF personnel, one of whom is an officer, were arrested for plotting to steal a rifle from the security guard of Gujjar leader Chaudhary Hamid in Anantnag district of Kashmir on Thursday.

Mansoor Ahmad Bhat stole the service rifle of PSO Bashir Ahmad when the latter left it unattended and hid it in a blanket. When Bashir found the weapon missing, he noticed the suspicious movements of Manzoor, a frequent visitor to Hamid’s house, an Army source said. While attempting to flee, Manzoor was overpowered. “Manzoor disclosed that the rifle was meant for two BSF personnel,” the source said.

FIR against Army units

The J&K police on Thursday registered an FIR against two Army units under Sections of RPC (criminal code applicable in J&K) and IPC a day after 20-year-old Khalid Gafar Malik was killed in firing in Kupwara district. Soldiers of a road-ope- ning party from 8 Bihar and 160 Territorial Army units opened fire after facing stone-pelting.
