A pall of gloom descended on Karimabad area as the body of Koppu Sharath arrived here on Thursday morning.
People in large numbers gathered at his residence to have a last glimpse of the youth who was killed by a robber last Friday in Kansas city of the USA. Friends, relatives and neighbours wailed inconsolably on seeing Sharath’s body. His mother Malathi was inconsolable. Neighbours and relatives said that they never imagined that they would be seeing him in such a state.
A resident of Karimabad area Nagapuri Sanjay Babu said Sharath was a sharp student and worked in Hyderabad for three years after his engineering degree. “Had he been here, he would have been with us today. America is proving to be dangerous for our students,” he said, wiping his tears.
Sanjay Babu further said Sharath chased a dream and left his parents in tragedy for ever. Bommala Kattaiah, an elderly person, blamed the US government for not providing enough security to Telugu students. “Only Telugu students are getting targeted. The government must take steps to prevent such attacks,” he said.
Mr. Kattaiah said he knew the family for over four decades. “This is shocking and I am unable to digest the sudden death of Sharath,” he said.
Earlier in the day, Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari, MLA Konda Surekha and collectors K. Amrapali (Warangal Urban) and M. Haritha (Warangal Rural) paid a visit to Sharath’s residence and conveyed their sympathies to the parents. People from different walks of life also visited the place before the funeral procession took place in the evening.
