Croatia come from behind to beat England in World Cup semis
For the third knock-out match in a row, Croatia found a way to come from behind and progress in the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
After nerve-wrenching penalty shoot-outs in the Round of 16 game against Denmark and the quarter-finals with hosts Russia, Croatia needed extra-time once again in the semi-final against England.
Kieran Trippier put England ahead in the fifth minute with a brilliant free-kick, but Croatia found their way back with an equaliser in 68th minute through Ivan Perisic. Perisic provided the assist for Mario Mandzukic’s 109th minute winner as well as Croatia progressed to their first World Cup final.
While Croatia will play France in the final on Sunday, England and Belgium would have to make-do with their third place play-off on Saturday – a rematch of their inconsequential Group G encounter that saw plenty of team changes and the match finish 1-0 in Belgium’s favour.
