DMK working president M K Stalin today backed Swaraj India chief Yogendra Yadav over Income Tax raids at the premises of a family related to the latter, and said Central agencies were being used to target critics of the government.
In a tweet, Stalin condemned "the misuse of Central agencies to target political opponents and critics of the Government."
"This goes against numerous judgments of the Supreme Court. Law enforcement agencies should ultimately be freed from political influence. @_YogendraYadav," said Stalin, Leader of Opposition in the Tamil Nadu assembly.
The IT Department had on Wednesday raided multiple premises of a hospital group in Haryana's Rewari related to family of Yadav and recovered about Rs 22 lakh in cash, after it was detected that the owners allegedly made cash payments to a Nirav Modi firm for purchasing jewellery.
Yadav had alleged the raid was conducted at his sisters' hospital-cum-nursing home premises with an intent to "intimidate" and "silence" him as he had launched an agitation for fair crop price for farmers and against liquor shops in that city in Haryana.
However, the Haryana BJP unit had rubbished Yogendra Yadav's charge that the search conducted at his sisters' hospital in Rewari was meant to intimidate him.
