AGRA: A train ticket examiner of Allahabad-Jaipur Express was suspended by railway authorities after he was booked for an attempt to outrage a woman's modesty on train.
TTE Nanak Singh (50), who is currently posted in
Agra division, was booked under IPC section 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) by the Kanpur Central government railway police on Wednesday.
According to police, an 18-year-old girl, who is a resident of Ballia, was traveling along with her female friend from Allahabad to Jaipur, when the TTE started touching her inappropriately while she requested him for a berth, as she had an RAC ticket.
The incident took place in B3 coach of 12403 (Allahabad-Jaipur Express) at around 2am on Wednesday between Fatehpur and Kanpur Central. After the incident, the victim made a distress call to GRP control room, while fellow passengers detained the TTE to hand him over to police at Kanpur Central.
Rahul Gautam, station house officer of GRP Kanpur Central, said, “For over one hour, the train was halted at the railway station, but later based on the victim’s complaint, an FIR was lodged against the TTE.”
A cop on condition of anonymity said the victim in her FIR wrote, that "she had requested the TTE for a berth as she was traveling with RAC ticket. The accused asked her to wait at his berth, while he inspects other tickets. When the TTE came to his berth, he informed the victim of unavailability of the berth and asked her to sit and share his berth. Later, the TTE switched off the light and started touching her inappropriately, after which protest took place and he was confronted.”
Speaking to TOI, divisional commercial manager of Agra division, Sanchit Tyagi, “The TTE has been granted bail, but we have suspended him and initiated a departmental inquiry against him. The accused TTE has clean records and we never received any complaint about him. His colleagues too are shocked to know the incident.”
