Work Together

Sir — This refers to the article, “Lend voice to Parliament” (July 11) by Kalyani Shankar. The article assumes both relevance and significance as it  is a grim reminder of the loss of labour and time of our public representatives and the tax-payers’ hard-earned money. Both the Houses have not been allowed to function during earlier sessions following a war of attrition of sorts between the Opposition and the ruling dispensation leading to disruption of parliamentary proceedings. This, in turn, stalled the passage of some important Bills.

The apprehension is that the monsoon session may again see pandamonium over a number of burning issues like Jammu & Kashmir, the agrarian crisis and lynchings.

Both the Opposition and Treasury Benches should desist from their traditional war of words and cooperate with each other in the smooth running of Parliament.
