Incessant rains in parts of Gujarat led to one death while 600 people were shifted to safe locations from water logged areas in South Gujarat where many roads remained blocked as rivers are swelling and dams overflowing. One person died of drowning in Bardoli town.

Since Monday, South Gujarat and parts of Saurashtra have been experiencing heavy rainfall. In South Gujarat, Valsad, Navsari and areas of Surat district received maximum rainfall. This affected traffic movements on interior roads, which were submerged in waist-deep water.

“There is alert in South Gujarat for more rain in next 24 hours. On Wednesday, 600 people were shifted to safe locations,” a state government official from the emergency centre said.

The state authorities have deployed around a dozen teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to deal with emergency situation in case water level rises in local rivers and other water bodies.

In Sourashtra region, Somnath, Rajula and a few other coastal places received heavy downpour. “South Gujarat and Saurashtra will continue to receive heavy rainfall and monsoon will spread in North Gujarat and Central region also,” as per the IMD forecast.
