Volunteers of Sunya project honoured

Coimbatore: The city corporation on Thursday honoured the volunteers, who actively participated in Sunya project and helped in propagating solid waste management practices.
Corporation commissioner K Vijayakarthikeyan felicitated 30 members of public, 12 sanitary workers of the civic body and eight NGOs. He distributed citations appreciating their contribution to the project.

The project is being implemented in the city in wards 22 and 24 by the corporation with the support of organisations like ICCEI, RAAC and industrial houses like Bosch.

Reiterating the role of volunteers in segregation of biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste, Vijayakarthikeyan said the public, as well as sanitary workers and NGOs in Coimbatore, have been going the extra mile to ensure that the project is implemented effectively.

Later he inspected the fertiliser making plant functioning at the west zone office under the project.
