Nearly 300 kg of seacucumber valued at Rs 6 lakh, meant to be smuggled to Sri Lanka was seized at Serankottai coast near here today and one person arrested in this connection, marine police said.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of marine police went to the spot and seized the sea cucumber, which was being loaded onto a boat, they said.
Sea cucumbers are classified as endangered species and their harvest is banned under the Wildlife Protection Act.
These are in great demand in South-East Asian countries.
