After five days’ heavy rain in Wayanad, there was a lull on Thursday. However, major tributaries of the Kabani river, including Mananthavady, Panamaram and Nugu rivers, are in spate in many low-lying areas of the district.
The district received sporadic spells of low-intensity rainfall on Thursday.
The schools and colleges in Sulthan Bathery taluk, which remained closed for three days in anticipation of a downpour, will reopen on Friday.
But the district administration declared holiday for all educational institutions, except professional colleges, in Vythiri and Mananthavady taluks for the fourth consecutive day on Friday.

District Collector A. Ajayakumar said the low-lying areas of the district, especially Mananthavady and Vythiri taluks, continued to be flooded owing to the heavy rain.
The district received an average rainfall of 72.7 mm over the last 24 hours ending 3 p.m. on Thursday.
Mananthavady taluk received the highest rainfall at 123.1 mm followed by Vythiri with 60.6 mm and Sulthan Bathery with 34.4 mm of rainfall on the day.
The district received an average of 1,757.54 mm rainfall during this year’s monsoon, of which 452.08 mm was received since July 7.
Forty-one relief camps were opened in the district, including four on Thursday, in connection with rain-related incidents, Mr. Ajayakumar said. He added that 2,595 persons from 635 families had been shifted to relief camps.
Sixteen camps were opened in Mananthavady taluk , 13 camps in Vythiri and 12 camps in Sulthan Bathery.
