Just like the old 360 Challenge Stradale, 430 Scuderia and 458 Speciale, the Ferrari 488 Pista is aimed at people exclusively looking for a hardcore supercar experience.

Unveiled earlier this year, the 488 Pista is powered by a modified 3.9-liter twin turbo V8 putting down 711 HP (721 PS) and 568 lb-ft (770 Nm) of torque. The result is a top speed in excess of 211 mph (340 km/h) and a 0-62 mph (100 km/h) sprint time of 2.85 seconds.

Compared to the regular 488 GTB, the Pista comes with a rear blown spoiler, F1-inspired S-duct, custom front intakes, new rear diffuser, plus a boatload of tech aimed at making it more fun to drive.

Does it work? Well, according to Sean Carson of Auto Express, Ferrari have hit a major home run with the Pista, which he calls “hilariously fun to drive and deliciously exploitable.” At first, he was shocked by how quickly the engine revved and how responsive the car felt – something the Italian automaker really needed to nail.

Also, by not receiving all of the engine’s torque until you’ve hit 7th gear, the power delivery will feel similar to that of a naturally aspirated engine, which is a huge bonus in this day and age.

This is one of the most superlative-riddled reviews we’ve seen in a long time, and while the 488 Pista might really be one of the greatest supercars in the world, we can’t help but wonder if it can give the McLaren 720S a proper run for its money. On paper, they’re pretty much equals, yet the Ferrari is supposed to be the more hardcore of the two. Can’t wait for the comparison, then…
